FAQ'S

Q. Will my system be outdated six months after I buy it?

A. It's outdated before you buy it. But that's the same with all computer systems. There's always something bigger, better, faster coming out next month or next year. If you wait to get the latest and greatest, you'll never get a computer system. We prefer the outlook that as long as your system will run the programs that you need or want, at a speed acceptable to you, then it's never outdated.

Q. Do your systems incorporate the latest leading edge technologies?

A. Nope! Leading edge on hardware or software is not a very comfortable place to be. Never buy version 1.0 of anything. You'll end up troubleshooting all sorts of bugs for the manufacturers. We are, however, six month to one year behind the leading edge. This allows us the ability to confidently  predict that the products will work as advertised.

Q. What if I don't need some of the things in your standard package?

A. No problem. Our philosophy is that one size does'nt fit all. We can customize your system to fit your exact needs. Subtract anything you don't need, or add the components you do need. Need something .....radical? Dual Pentium processors? Mirrored 9 GIG SCSI3 hard drives? 256MB SDRAM? Again, no problem.

Q. Why don't you offer three or five year warranties like some do?

A. Good question. You need to read the fine print on these warranties. Our experience has been that these warranties cover the basic system for a short period, such as one year, and some of the components for up to five years, primarily RAM and CPU. Some cover parts only in the warranty and labor is extra. And we've seen cases where the manufacturer could not honor the warranty due to unavailability of components.

Our warranty is based on the technological lifetime of the system, which is now about 18 months.  We prefer to offer a simple, easy to understand eighteen month parts and labor warranty that we can honestly support. Please refer to the full Warranty text on this page.

Q. Why are some of the mail order systems so cheap?

A. This question brings to mind the cavet "If it's to good to be true, it probably is". System pricing is in direct porportion to quality, reliability and service. Here are some of the nightmares we've seen with these systems: the component brands promised in the ads are not the components actually delivered, such as hard drives, CPU's, video and sound cards. And some or all of the software on the systems is counterfiet or sent to you without the disks and manuals (in most cases, this is illegal). Plus, technical support is provided by one overworked technican with a weak bladder. Most consumers would not be able to tell if any of these situations exist prior to purchase. Could you?

Q. What kind of support can I expect from PC Plus?

A. We believe that service and support for our customers is critical to our success. Usually, any problems you have with one of our systems can be resolved with a telephone call, and you won't be put on hold for half of the day. Our experience has been that, since the advent of Windows 95, over 99% of problems experienced with our systems are caused by software rather than hardware. Even though software problems are not covered under our warranty, we'll do our best to help you solve these problems. Some software can make you system inoperable. In this case, we will completly format and reload your hard drive. And we do this at no charge to you (one time only). If you do have a hardware problem, your system goes to the front of the repair queue, and the defective component replaced, usually within two days.

Q. Why don't you use the Cyrix or AMD CPU's.....aren't they cheaper?

A. We've run into too many hardware and software compatibility issues with these CPU's. Plus the fact that in order to achieve the performance to match the INTEL CPU's, these chips run at near the upper edge of the performance envelope. This can mean problems for you. Sometimes just a slight overheating will cause a CPU malfunction. When you're four hours into a project and you haven't saved it yet and the system reboots.....well, you get the idea.
